Odisha boy Ayushman Mohanty won the bronze medal in the open category of the 32nd National U-7 Chess Championship, which was held at Tumkur in Karnataka from July 16 to 24, 2018. Amogh Bisht (Karnataka) and Jaivardhan Raj (Maharashtra) bagged the gold and silver medal respectively.
Ayushman scored nine points in the 11-round tournament. He won nine games and lost two. This was the maiden national medal for Ayushman, who had won the title in the Odisha State U-7 Championship last month at Bhubaneswar.
Sandeepa Priyadarshini Sahoo turned out to be the most successful Odisha player in the girls category of the Tumkur National championship, finishing 11th with eight points. Lakshana Subramanian (Tamil Nadu) captured the gold medal in this category, while the silver and bronze went to Kolagatla Alana Meenakshi (AP) and Aishani Pathak (UP) respectively.
